Critical Thinking
Course Name: MGNT 4165-Human Resource Management
Course Assignment: Harrah’s Case Study
The ability to evaluate data, recognize problems, and cultivate different solutions is critical to the success of any business. In my Human Resource Management class I was presented with a case where Harrah’s was losing 16 million dollars a year on employee incentives. I had to analyze each department to see where most of Harrah’s losses were coming from. I then had to assess Harrah’s training program to find opportunities to save money and increase employee efficiency. I suggested that Harrah’s implement a daily start-up meeting where employees will be recognized by their peers for daily contribution. Harrah’s can also implement awards on teamwork, productivity and reliability. If you reward employees in front of their peers it builds the morale of the employee and it also shows employees what your company expectations are. I also noted that a 90 day probation period is sufficient for new employees. At the 45 day mark there should also be a review to gain feedback on how training is going and asses if the employee is a fit for the company and vice versa.
